Drakxtools è un insieme di script e di moduli specifici per Mandriva scritti in Perl con GTK UI (più precisamente - si usano wrapper su perl-GTK). Lo sviluppo di Drakxtools è iniziato una dozzina di anni fa, ma di anno in anno diventa sempre più difficile mantenerlo e migliorarlo a causa della sua struttura interna poco flessibile interna e un gran numero di restrizioni nel codice. Noi crediamo che la maggior parte dei drakxtools non soddisfino le moderne esigenze e andrebbero sostituiti con strumenti analoghi più attuali.

Alcune riflessioni sulla sostituzione dei drakxtools:

• per molti strumenti, ce ne sono di analoghi nel centro di controllo di KDE4 (KDE control center)
• ... tuttavia, alcuni di essi sono davvero unici in Mandriva ed al momento non sappiamo stimare quanto tempo ci vorrà per sviluppare i loro analoghi
• per alcuni strumenti gli analoghi di KDE esistono già, ma sono applicazioni distinte (non fanno parte di KDE control center)
• alcuni strumenti sono specifici per le infrastrutture di Mandriva (Mandriva Club account, login al wiki, ecc), quindi in ogni caso andrebbero eliminati in ROSA; la domanda è se vogliamo sviluppare i loro analoghi.

Le sostituzioni per gli strumenti di configurazione del Centro di Controllo di Mandriva (Drakconf) in ROSA Marathon 2012 sono elencati nella seguente tabella:
